Friends

Yes! People willing to associate with me! To stick up for me! To make fun of me! To argue and fight with me! To make up after those fights with me! "That's what friends are for..."

Jeremy "Haruka" Phillips (jphil@cage.curtin.edu.au)
Jeremy's my cousin. People often mistake him for me, although I have no idea why. True, we do have the same interests, share some common friends, and the vacancy from my last job was pretty much filled by him, but other than that. Jeremy defies all the laws of nature. I mean, hey, he's a relative AND he's a friend! That's not natural for a start!
Chris "Haleth" Cooper (c.cooper@cowan.edu.au)

Chris and I, no relation, seem to have our lives running in parallel, and our paths keep crossing. We both have similar backgrounds, musical training, religion, computers, education, employment, etc... My current job at Murdoch became available when Chris, the previous occupant of the position, moved on to be CWIS Manager at another campus.

Not wanting to follow him into THAT job, I decided to break the trend, and, errr, went out and got Married (and made him the Best Man).

Chris is also a fellow Clan Founding Member, and is infamous on the local servers (and PC Bashes) as a LPB (Low Ping Bastard), due to his inhuman accuracy.

Simon "Ranma" Coates (scoates@mlc.wa.edu.au)
A friend I met at Uni, we used to share a house with each other, pre-marriage (me to my wife, not to him...), and found out all sorts of each others dark, hidden, secrets and bad habits. The person who introduced me to anime, Simon has strayed from the path, and seems to be becoming somewhat "normal". He's even got a steady girlfriend who basically lived with us, and he is now living with her and another of his friends. Simon and I together were the local Gods of Doom, and carry on the tradition with each new FPS that comes out, although the competition IS getting a bit better.
James "Kagato" Budworth (budworth@cage.curtin.edu.au)
James shares my taste in Home Entertainment Hardware, and is another who actually buys anime LD's and such. He currently works at Curtin, up on the hill in CC, as a Macintosh Technician! If you think you hate Mac's as much as you could, be a Techie fixing them for a while and sink deeper.
Steve "Gally" McGlone (akira@tower.net.au)
Steve has a car. Steve has a stereo in his car. You can hear Steve coming five minutes before he arrives. If you're stressed, then sitting in Steve's car can give you a nice soothing full-body massage. Can anyone say Base? Steve doesn't invest in many LD's, but has a large collection of purchased videos, manga, etc...
Mike "Harbinger" Groeneweg
Mike is a fellow Murdoch Employee, and is the resident UNIX Guru. Although not a big anime fan, he also has similar tastes for fast computers, fun games, and Home Theatre. He is a fellow Clan Founding Member, and is pretty good with a Rocket Launcher.
Simon "Nevryn" Oxwell
Simon moves in so many circles, it's amazing he doesn't fall over from dizziness. A fellow Murdoch employee (who knows 90% of the staff, and a fair whack of the students on-campus), he is also an anime fan, and regularly attends JAFWA. Add to that a history of past and present SwanCon organisation, roleplaying activities, Amateur Theatre assistance, and miscellaneous other activities, and most people end up knowing Simon from one place or another. His new Home Theatre setup is also the most TLA-Compliant one I know of.
Iain "Winkie" Bradley
Iain, a previous Murdoch Employee, tried his hand at running an Internet Company called WebMagic, although business is quiet, so he's now doing some work for another Internet-based company. Iain is the Guiness-Drinker of the group, and staunch supporter of certain computer games (such as Unreal).
Tamara "A`zure" Phillips (nee Morgan) (azure@southwest.com.au)

Tamara is the biggest single cause of me revising my web pages. She started off as Old Friend 1.0, but after a lengthy courtship, was upgraded to Fiancee 1.0 on 10th May, 1997. A year minus a day later, we were married in Mandurah, in the local Catholic Church, and so she is now Wife 1.0. The Big Day was going to be the 26th of September, but was moved forward due to certain factors (including impatience), and so the majority of the organisation was done in the 8 weeks leading up to the Big Day! All in all, everything went very well, thanks largely to help from all our friends and family.

I did have a Live Countdown to W-Day here, and for over a year after the wedding, it showed negative time. I've finally updated it, and tweaked it now, to show a count-down until the next A-Day:

Tamara was a single mother, and so upon the upgrade to Wife 1.0, I also gained a bonus Son 3.0 called James, who is now a growing 5 year-old, in Pre-primary. He's very quick at learning things, and is quite independent for his age (sometimes too independent). He's also more computer-literate than many adults, and I've caught him installing new software on my PC (under Windows95) once or twice...

Being previously a single parent, at home most of the time, Tamara spent much of her time on the Web (she's a bit of a 'net junkie), and so picked up many Internet-related skills, and continues to be well-versed in the intricacies of advanced HTML coding. Since last November, she has also been working full-time at Murdoch University, helping maintain the aging CC-80, manning Helpdesk, and helping with CWIS work inbetween. She also does occasional HTML consultancy work when available.

Affiliations

These are the clubs, groups, and other associations with which I am a member of in one way or another.

JAFWA (Japanese Animation Fans of Western Australia)
JAFWA hold regular screenings of anime, and there was a day when I'd never miss one, although nowadays I miss more than I would like due to "having a life" (although it's also due to "having a wife". *grin*)

I was a sub-sub-comittee member of JAFWA, fulfilling the vital role of supplying the Coke(tm) for each screening. I have now graduated to being a full sub-comittee member, with the swanky title of "Internet Communications Officer". Yes, that's right, I host and maintain the JAFWA Mailing Lists, with which the JAFWA members chat, and the JAFWA Comittee members plot.
Clan Nexus
When Quake II began its streak of Internet Popularity, a group of us came together to form Clan Nexus, a group of like-minded individuals out to wreak terror on the local HPB community. Nowadays, the Clan is diversifying into other Internet games, and we've lost some members, and gained some others. Free Time is not what it used to be, but you can still see Clan members on the local servers now and again.
CFC (Cute Fan Consortium)
This was a private club who used to have monthly meetings and screenings of anime, specialising in the type you don't want to let a diabetic too close to. Nowadays we are more of a Net Presence due to members time constraints, and some members living out whoop whoop. It's mostly dissolved, but there are occasional sessions.
#SAS# (Sasami Appreciation Society)
You don't want to know!! ^_^;; (And this guy's page does go over the top a tad; doesn't have enough about Tsunami, either.)

Links

These are some links to software and information sites which I find indispensable when trying to find things on the Web.

TUCOWS (The Ultimate Collection of Windsock Software)
That's what they call it, and as far as I've seen, it's true! If ever I need a network app, I can find it at Tucows. This is the central site in the USA, but there are hundreds of mirror sites world-wide. The site I use is a local Perth-based Mirror, and is lightning fast (for me).
Yahoo
Although I think they could reduce the number of out of date links, Yahoo is still the best starting place for searching for something on the Web. Also, if Yahoo doesn't find a match, it will forward the request to Alta Vista, which usually does have a match (if totally irrelevent), and gives you the option of submitting your request to a dozen other search engines.
Anime Web Turnpike
A good collection of anime links. If you're looking for info on a particular series or show, there's probably a few links here.
WinAmp - MP3 player
WinAmp is THE best MP3 player I know of! It is now shareware, but at US$10, I think it's worth registering! (And intend to myself one of these days).
